Open Word©TonyFallon0107

I just hit Office Word
And the page came out blank
I would have much preferred
If it was green instead of Blanc

That means I have to compose
A rather large conundrum
Maybe poetry or prose
I just feel like a dumdum

The first word is vital
It sets the whole theme
If it's a scary title
People just might scream

I can't write of broken affairs
Or my troubles growing
Or other sad despairs
If I brag they'll think in crowing

If I make the slightest error
They will say that I rushed
That will then cause me terreur
And I will be so crushed

When the new New Year starts I think of years gone past
And how Three hundred and sixty five days can go by so fast
I remember bringing home the pony and the cows and
thinking how far away was that magic year two thousand
Now that magic year isn't even in the rear view mirror
Because the year twenty oh twenty is so much nearer
I thought at my advanced age I would surely be deployed
But since I'm working for myself I'm really not employed
It's hard to convince myself of anything at eight o'clock
Or one hour later when I'm in the shop checking out the stock
But still there is nothing beats a reason to get out of bed
I know a few people younger than me who are already dead
Some think hard work could kill so they never chance their luck
They would not even row a boat to go fishing on the Suck
I was living in Dublin on my last Irish New Years Day
And I probably went to Dalymount Park to watch Bohs play
There was not much excitement in or house and that was because
While there would be another big meal there was no more Santa Clause
For our New Years my mother would swap a turkey for two small geese
And when we got finished eating there would be nothing left but grease
I never went to Times Square for the ball or the exploding rockets
That's too late to be on the subway and there are many pickpockets
I remember going dancing one year to the Red Mill on Jerome
And because the taxi's were all downtown walking four miles home

The Reason©2019TonyFallon0106

 The Reason©2019TonyFallon0106

The reason to be antsy can be caused by too much stuff
There may be too much bickering and you have had enough
She is playing with a weak hand but she is acting tough
She said you'd never leave her she trying to force your bluff.

The reason you were unhappy and always seemed be so stressed
You took advice from everybody and you were getting messed
Meanwhile many problems in your life were not being addressed
You need professionals to get the troubles off your chest

The reason to be happy is your working and your stocks have grown
So with all that money in your pocket you won't be long alone
The big trip you were planning to Ireland you don't have to postpone
You can pay back the money to the bank they gave you as a loan

The Poor©2019TonyFallon0106

The Poor©2019TonyFallon0106

You can put up with the world's homeless hungry or protest
Accept this absurdity or stand up for the oppressed
No one ever should have to be without food or clothes
Or be living on the street in winter when it snows
Those are feeble people who feel betrayed and cheated
Beaten down by parents or bullies and feel defeated
Children dying from disease and severe malnutrition
Parents who can not afford medicine or a physician
And God forbid they should be let practice birth control
While hungry children beg for scrap of food in their bowl
No one seems to see the children rattle the empty plate
When they should be in some school learning with their schoolmate

Americans freeze on the street while Mr. Walton thrives
In India men treat cattle much better than their wives
Children bathe in rivers not much better than a sewer
Filled with rotten fruit, human waste and animal manure
The rich say that to get a job would be their salvation
But the sick the lame the blind have no proper education
People living in cardboard boxes and discarded wood crates
Or lying poorly dressed on the street for heat from exhaust grates
To alleviate misery some turn to cheap wine or rum
The rich do not have to see them living daily in a slum

How much better is life living in city housing projects?
Crowded in inferior housing with vermin and insects
The working middle class within weeks could feel the same effects
If they are laid off from their job and miss a few paychecks
Meanwhile good food gets dumped because of an expiration date
In this kinder gentler nation we so proudly populate.

Cabin Fever©2019TonyFallon0104

Cabin Fever©2019TonyFallon0104
I am looking out the window through the frosted glass
The over night snowfall covers the dormant garden grass
There's some on the barbecue that I never put away
And on both sides of the seesaw where the grand children play
There is no dog out there chasing after his own tail
Or barking at the mail man when he delivers mail
I see two squirrels dig frozen ground they are such mutts
It's only January they must have eaten all their nuts
No birds of any kind swim on the river that I share
On the silent trees there is no apple leaf or pear
The vegetable patch lies barren except for long dead stalks
And the unused waterfall I built out of mountain rocks
I long for better weather so I can get out and till
And spend a sunny summers evening cooking on the grille
I wish I could hibernate like the bear and beaver
These short cold days are not for me I have cabin fever

New Year©2019TonyFallon0103

New Year©2019TonyFallon0103

The next Chinese new year
Will soon start out with a bang
And the following details
Are from Mister Ying and Yang

The dog is going away
He'll be away for years
Twelve long years will pass
Then he suddenly reappears

This year he will be replaced
As in ancient Chinese lore
As surely as the sun rises
By the pig or wild boar

The boar or pig brings luck
And it is best to sleep
With the tiger or rabbit
But it's better with the sheep

While you could marry a pig
You'd be making a big mistake
If you were to marry
A monkey or a snake

To Pray©2019TonyFallon 0103

To Pray©2019TonyFallon 0103

Whenever I go to church
Does it matter where I kneel?
If my outfit does not match
It should not be a big deal

I did not come to impress
Just to have a chat with God
Before heading out once more
Walking my own lonely road

He didn't hear from me last night
He is my only shepherd
I may not pray now for days
Today I made the effort
