Once upon a time in Ireland there lived a maiden fair
Just outside Shannon Airport in the County of Clare
She
wanted to go to travel but didn't have the fare

But then someone said they'd buy her lovely red long hair

Her hair was really colored ginger which they all called red
It fell to behind her knees from her blue eyed head
She was afraid to sell it in case she'd remain unwed
Because she knew her hair was cherished by her lover Fred

She'd often go to the airport to see the big birds land
And see the American s very well clothed and tanned
She though of life as a farmer's wife and it sure seemed bland
If she sold the hair on her head she'd have some cash in hand

She was betwixt and between about the upcoming snips
This was not a makeover where they were leveling tips
In other words this parting could cause her major blips
In her mirror it might seem just like an apocalypse

She thought long and hard which way she should finally decide
She asked her loving mother no clear answer was supplied
When she asked her grumpy father he like wise replied
So she had no parental guidance to which she could abide

To clear her head she called Fred and went out in his Cortina
They decided to ask for insight by starting a novena
Before cutting off the hair for the Spanish ballerina
Who would wear her hair on the stages of Argentina

Well the hair was cut after the certified check was mailed
And everybody says she now looks like she's bobtailed
She and Fred got married and on the Honeymoon boat sailed
And their final destination has not yet been unveiled
