When you find a little bird with a broken wing
to try to fix it is the proper thing
When the wing is healed you must not cling
Release it to the wild and let it sing

You did not own it from the beginning

To keep it in a cage you’d be sinning
to keep it as a prisoner is so wrong
let it go free to sing its own sweet song

It can not be cloned

It can not be freely owned

For it will not willingly stay

If you open the cage it will fly away

Crossing the River©2019TonyFallon0812

Jane just sent me an incredible song WHY CAN'T I CROSS THE RIVER . The song gives no answers as to why the singer can't or won't cross the river. Assuming the word River was used symbolically to indicate other problems I penned the following
Crossing the River©2019TonyFallon0812
In your life's journey many rivers may be on your route
Do you just take your shoes off and cross without a hoot?
Or do you hesitate in case the water is very deep
Or that the footing on the other side might be too steep
There may also be other reasons which are unsound
For the river may be so shallow no one ever drowned
Afraid to cross the river may be a paradox
It may not be physical but a set of mind blocks
Maybe it's a question that you're afraid of asking
Maybe it's unhappiness you're successfully masking
Are you afraid your cruel tormentor you would hurt?
While you shed dignity and become a hopeless introvert
are you covering up black eyes and nasty bruises?
Given to you by boyfriends who are nothing but losers
It may not be a river that you are afraid to cross
It may be your need to stand up to your demanding boss
It may be abuse you are taking from a husband or wife
Causing you daily depression and ruining your life
You have got to take the first step which you won't regret
You cannot cross the river without getting your toes wet
So when you cross the river you will be standing tall
And telling all your tormentors you'll no longer crawl
Wow I wrote this in less than half an hour, Jane told
me it's perfect and I believe her. LOL.

Babies©2019TonyFallon0808
New babies are the cutest creatures put on this the earth
And loved by many people who did not give them birth
The Grandparents are usually the leaders of this squad
They don’t have stay all night Thanks’ be to God
I often think that grandpa is somehow enjoying
When his grandchild is his new father annoying
They’ve had enough of nightly feeding and screaming
And can enjoy angelic smiles when the baby is dreaming
Adults stick out their tongues and otherwise act so juvenile
But the baby doesn’t think that’s funny so he will smile
There’s so much cooing and clucking the baby can not nap
But there are not many helping hands when there’s a mishap
It’s then they will lose interest a problem they can’t decipher
All will be yelling “Mommy the baby needs a new diaper”

How or why did we ever get together?
We are certainly not of the same feather
We have different axis of rotation
More tuned to analysis and collation

Our moods and thoughts are often far apart
Maybe exact opposites do attract
Yet in so many ways you have touched my heart
In my life at the moment you are the major act

We walk by some heads are usually scratched
They all think we are drastically mismatched
We do not concur we do not agree
I think God made me for you, you just for me.

We don't criticize we are both boosters
No great effort to be very clever
we do not lie we were born straight shooters
Life lately just seems to be so much better

Sticks and stones can break you bones

But the stones can be uses for a wall

In Ireland we used them for goalposts when we played ball

Many balls were deemed wide when they were in fact inside

There were no umpires to concur or agree

And we mostly played without a linesman or a referee

When she sits on the rocky coast I bet she thinks of me

When she sees the boats come home from the angry sea

She looks out over the ocean when saving the oats and hay

She claims she prays for my safe return every single day

From early school days that we’d be together that was elementary

Everybody knew in the parish we’d be wed in the new century

We walked with neighbors to school through many a flooded farm

Everybody knew they’d answer to me if they wished her any harm

To secondary we rode together both with a second hand bike

And cycled to a nearby lake on Sundays to fish for perch and pike

For me to make a bit of money in America was our master plan

She swore on her Sunday Missal she’d never look at another man

We both knew it would be hard to be fishing without a decent trawler

So the answer was construction in New York to make a decent dollar

Along with the construction I work most weekends as a bartender

I know she’ll take good care of all the extra money I send her

Jazz©2019TonyFallon0801

Alternate Verses are 1/2/3/4 and 1/3-2/4
Jazz©2019TonyFallon0801

Jazz is the music of the fisherman or sailor
It can be real honest or made up from a fable
It can gladden seamstresses or even a tailor
Whether standing up or cross legged on his table

If you take an old tune and add a little pizzazz
Add a little of your own flair then you have Jazz
I think it was around New Orleans it was first found
It never has been written the words you cannot impound

I don't think jazz is a genre it really is a mood
it's just merry and happy and full of optimism
It sounds like fried chicken and finger licking food
It's hard to listen to jazz and think of terrorism

Every musician has his own ideas and he plays them freestyle
It can be played by a single musician or with rank and file
It can be played in the backroom of a disrespected dive
Or in a hotel in New York renowned for classic waltzes and jive

It is the music of the people single or in crowds
Once the music starts up the toes will soon be tapping
Your heart will soar at once into the distant clouds
You'll hate when it is over for by then you're clapping

Would you have the courage to ask a Jazz man to conform?
To play a song as it had been written not in his type of free form
To go back and play the written word without any innovation
I think he would rather face a week of total starvation
