Sixty years ago our small church was in a central location

Today they have a much bigger church but far less congregation

The total parishioners declined but so has veneration

Elderly are shaken at what happened to this generation

That time to get to heaven there was was only the righteous way

Your way of life was laid down rather strictly Monday to Sunday

You said prayers morning and night and stopped for the Angelus bell

If you lied or committed other sins you were headed for hell

Then came color television the evil box in the corner

With evil liberal views of the often godless foreigner

But while watching world wide television some young Irish brains clicked

And some began to realise schools and churches were far too strict

The degradation of innocents in the laundry prisons

And the immorality of wayward priests caused so many schisms

The leaders knew of those immoral people who should have been purged

But dwelt on the commandments so no new morality emerged

Thousand year old bridges were being propped up no new ones were built

But you could keep most old people in line by laying on the guilt

While young lads of Ireland were thinking of Boston or Montreal

You'd be excommunicated if you didn't vote Fianna Fail(Fawl)
