Some children are the greatest gift that is well known
But parents have to nurture then until they are grown
In your old age you do not want to have to lament
That even though you tried the twig is badly bent
Maybe you were too lenient from their days in the cradle
You never used a stick on them you never used a ladle
Neighbor’s children have gone off to the East and West
You still have two at home who never left the nest
I’m afraid you did not point them in the right direction
And they took advantage of your love and affection
