The long and winding road
Was straightened long ago
And is now up to code
Between Galway and Mayo

We had the seven sisters
Now it’s down to four
They now are sweeping twisters
Down by Finnegan’s store

They took stone from quarries
They took stones from sheds
Loaded them in Lorries
Made them road beds

The roads from the Suir to the Lee
Are memories of the past
And you can drive from A to B
Nearly twice as fast

There are no more ass cart tracks
Outside our old abode
Or on the cul-de-sacs
Or the old bog road
