Writing poetry is really not that tricky

All you have to do is write about Micky

Or Vicky or Dickey or Mr & Mrs Hickey

After that you could try your hand at prose

And tell about where the river Shannon flows

Or about giving your girl friend a rose

Then its on to the thing they call Haiku

It doesn’t have to rhyme but that you knew

Don’t put in too many syllables what ere you do

Tankas have more syllables it’s thirty one

And you have five lines by the time you are done

If you don’t have five and thirty one it must be redone

Triolets and pontoums are too hard to explain

They take hours that’s far too much strain

And are written by a person with a big brain.
