The Curse of The Mets by Tony Fallon© 9/22/2016.

It's late in September and I have my regrets
That I am a die-hard fan of the New York Mets
It is the bottom of the ninth and its Déjà Vu
The Phillies are now leading the Queens Mets by two.
For the pinch hitter this is not the sport of kings
The pitcher throws over to first and Jay Bruce swings
Up steps our old friend who deserves a lot of praise
A two-run homer for good old Jose Reyes
The next two batters up are sadly soon gone home
Like the first two in the ninth in Casey's poem
Now it's on to extra inning and here's my plight
It could go twenty-four innings and last all night
The way they look at pitches and the way they've swung
You'd think the other pitcher was the great Cy Young
Familia comes in and digs his own deep grave
And he's now in the shower with no win or save.
The runners on are his responsibility.
The fans aren't happy and show their hostility
While I go for some tea for a quick caffeine fix
They walk in a run and now it is eight to six.
The way they have been playing it's just a disgrace
But a walk and a single there's two men on base
The shortstop Cabrerra trots round with a swagger
He has just won the game with a long three bagger
Henderson got the last three out and gets the win
Everything is fine we are in the race again.
Thank God I gave up all cigars and cigarettes
Cause tonight would be a two-packer watching the Mets.
