Everybody is worried not least of all the elderly Irish on fixed pensions hearing rumors about The New tax laws coming from a billionaire who never felt the pangs of hunger nor never had an empty pocket……
The Dinner © Tony Fallon120317
I am considering myself a winner
I have been invited to Sunday dinner
To eat turkey or beef and drink wine
That is the proper way for a gent to dine
There are people here from both sides of the border
It is the Christmas Dinner of the Ancient Order
Hibernians meeting far from the Emerald Isle
To eat and drink and to converse for a while
People whom still believe in the sanctity of mass
As the world seems to be sinking into a morass
Talk about people in Florida and cheap airfare
They worry about Social Security and Medicare
The language of today is often meanness and spite
And poor immigrants like us once hiding in fright
The slashing of the poor’s benefits seems so one-sided
Guaranteed to split the country and keep it divided
Do we see no evil hear no evil nor even speak about evil?
As the world and the country head towards major upheaval
When we seem to be heading to the point of no return
And wiser men than us are showing little or no concern
A world war could easily be started with a stupid tweet
Will we wait for jackboots marching down our street?
The ladies are here from Our Lady of Knock
And the guys are here from the Mass Rock
All have come here in hope and joy to break bread
And to pray for their sick and mourn for their dead
