I had money before you came here now I am flat broke
I don’t have money for a meal not even for a smoke
I can’t afford a new coat or a pair of decent shoes
The only thing keeping my feet dry is the daily News
There are not too many people greet me with a salute
Like they did when I showed up for work in my business suit
Walking around with a shopping cart I do not impress
And it’s very easy to tell that I am deeply in distress
I remember your mother said you were a wee bit wild
With the body of a woman but the mind of a child
I understand now about a man in love being blind
And his brain out of whack and not being totally aligned
You didn’t believe in saving only spend and spend
It was great while it lasted but we knew it had to end
When the money was all gone you maxed out all the cards
Then a couple of bad checks brought a visit from the Guards
There is a lot of difference between love and desire
Love only grows but of lust one can quickly tire
When we hit troubled waters all you had were insults
That was not the perfect way to get any kind of results
If you run blindly into a fire not the least bit concerned
You better be very careful or you’ll get badly burned
So don’t go near the oven if you can’t stand the heat
The money goes quickly and you’ll wind up on the street
